Lancaster Mayor Rex Parris said Wednesday, Nov. 25, that officials in his and neighboring cities are moving closer to more seriously considering forming their own public health department.
Parris, long an outspoken critic of Los Angeles County Public Health orders amid the pandemic, said his city is making an agenda for a special meeting next week to consider efforts to create a new local approach, akin to departments operated in Pasadena and Long Beach.
Parris said such departments could provide a measure of independence from L.A. County Public Health. He praised Pasadena’s decision this week to allow restaurants to continue outdoor dining, despite the county’s ban, which was scheduled to kick in Wednesday night.
