Residents in at least two California counties may have been checking their mailboxes for a ballot before it was even mailed out due to a notification error with a newly implemented statewide tracking system.
California’s mail-in ballot tracking system, BallotTrax, sent messages to some voters — who were signed up to receive updates — that their ballots went out on Sept. 28, even though they may not have been sent out yet.
Several California counties were affected, including both Riverside and Contra Costa counties where election officials heard from confused voters.
