The John Sutter statue outside of Sutter General Hospital was removed Monday afternoon as statues depicting controversial figures continue to be taken down all across the country.
Crews used a crane to lift the statue off the concrete base after it was detached. When the statute was taken down, a crowd watching the removal cheered.
In a statement, Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento, where the statue was located, explained why they removed the statute.
