Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Shamann Walton announced a plan Thursday to prioritize the redirection of funds from the San Francisco Police Department to support the city’s African-American community.
The announcement comes fewer than 24 hours after a peaceful protest organized by local teens from “NoJusticeNoPeaceSF” featured several speakers who called on city politicians to defund the San Francisco Police Department.
In a press release, Breed and Walton said they “will lead a collaborative process with the community in partnership with the Human Rights Commission to help identify and prioritize funding needs.”
