In response to health officials recommending that people avoid large gatherings due to the coronavirus, the California Department of Motor Vehicles said Monday it asked law enforcement throughout the state to use more discretion over the next 60 days in citing motorists for expired documents.
The DMV said in a media release it is making this request so that the most at-risk parts of the population – seniors and those with underlying health conditions – can avoid mandatory visits to DMV offices for renewals of driver licenses and vehicle registrations.
Things that might require a DMV visit are new or duplicate driver licenses, some driver license renewals, new license plates, vehicle registrations or title transfers and off-highway permits.
