Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer became the first major entrant in the race to succeed termed-out Mayor Eric Garcetti, by declaring his intent to run on Monday, just a day after the fund-raising filing period opened.
The filing period began on Sunday for citywide offices, which include the mayor, city attorney and controller seats. Those seats are opening up in 2022, and everyone in those positions, including Feuer, will be terming out.
There were other early-bird candidates this week. William Rodriguez Morrison filed a day later to begin fundraising in the mayor’s race. Meanwhile, the city attorney’s seat caught the eye of Marina Torres, who filed her fundraising papers on Monday. And City Councilman Paul Koretz made his campaign for controller official by filing his own papers on Wednesday.
