A charter school with ties to a conservative think tank and a curriculum focused on “classical education” could open in Orange by the fall.
The school’s officials expect the Orange County Classical Academy to have 360 students in kindergarten through fifth grade when it opens. The charter school, which recently received approval from the Orange Unified School District, would be the first of its kind in Orange County, officials said.
The school board’s 4-3 vote to approve the charter’s petition followed months of discussion over its curriculum, finances and enrollment projection – some of which residents said have yet to be addressed.
