The Los Angeles Police Department said on Tuesday that homicides in the city increased by 250% from just last week, with the number of people who were shot increasing by 56% in the same period.

The numbers were recorded during the week of May 31-June 6, while violent protests were at their height following the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd.
