Huntington Beach City Council Votes 5-2 To Take Legal Action Against Newsom’s Order Closing Orange County Beaches

Hours after Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all Orange County beaches to close, the Huntington Beach City Council voted Thursday evening to challenge the directive.

After meeting in closed session to discuss the measure, the council voted 5-2 to “take any legal action to challenge the governor’s executive order,” City Attorney Michael Gates said.

The city’s mayor, Lyn Semeta, said Huntington Beach hasn’t received a written copy of the order from the governor’s office.
