A new study examines the hidden costs California drivers face when traveling on the state’s deteriorating and congested roads.

According to transportation research group TRIP, driving on California’s deficient roadways costs state motorists $61 billion per year. The calculation is based on vehicle operating costs as a result of driving on rough roads, time and gas lost due to traffic, and the costs of traffic accidents.
