California’s Child Poverty Rate Is Rising

“Child poverty rates remain substantially higher than before the recession,” reports the Public Policy Institute of California.

Using official poverty statistics which don’t take into account the cost of living, 19.9 percent of children in California lived in poverty in 2016, up from 17.3 percent in 2007.

The 19.9 percent figure only gets worse when factoring cost of living, medical and child care costs and safety net benefits.
