New Poll Shows Newsom In Lead Followed By Allen And Cox In Race For Governor

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom continues to dominate the race for governor in the Bay Area, with two Republican candidates tied for second place, a new poll released Wednesday found.

The poll, conducted by the business group Bay Area Council, found the former San Francisco mayor at 39 percent among likely voters in his home region.

Republicans Travis Allen, an Orange County state assemblyman, and John Cox, a San Diego County businessman, were tied at 9 percent. They were followed by State Treasurer John Chiang at 5 percent, and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and former state schools chief Delaine Eastin at 4 percent each. A total of 26 percent of voters were undecided.
