Sacramento May Make Summer School Mandatory For Students

Sacramento City Unified School District’s superintendent insists that a new summer program is critical for students’ growth, as more than 50 percent of children in the district are falling behind in their learning.

The large number of students who aren’t achieving at the necessary levels could be at risk for dropping out in the future, Superintendent Jorge Aguilar said.

The new plan, developed by Aguilar, targets certain grades and requires children as young as 5 years old to attend summer school.
